Give it away, give it away, give it away now…
So you may or may not have found the giveaway requirements hiding somewhere here on the blog yet…but I decided in the meantime to make a multi-dimensional giveaway. Let me explain! I picked up this delicious, soft skein of Quince and Co’s Lark, a worsted weight yarn in the color Nasturtium (a nice, carroty orange). Perfect for fall.
“Alicia, but where is this yarn coming from?” you might ask…I’m so glad you did! Quince and co’s company is based right out of Portland, Maine, and uses wool sourced in the US. In their words:
We offer wool yarns that are sourced and spun in the US. Known in the trade as “territory wool,” our fiber comes from Merino, Rambouillet, and Columbia-based sheep that roam the ranges of Montana and Wyoming. All our wool and wool-blend yarns are spun in a New England mill with a venerable history. By sourcing our wool in the US and manufacturing our yarn locally, we minimize our carbon footprint.
I just want to add that for being a “Made in America” kind of company, their prices are very reasonable. My friend Ange picked up two fat skeins of Puffin in Marsh for her first knitting project. It’s going to be gorgeous. I highly reccomend starting with this yarn for a new knitter because it knits up fast and is so,so soft! Ah, but I digress…
So here’s the deal on the giveaway- Quince and Co. didn’t sponsor me in any way. (Gosh, I WISH!)
I went to Knitwit and bought this myself. (If you’d like to skip the giveaway and go straight over to Knitwit, it’s a lovely store: www.yarnonthebrain.com) and you can also go here to check out Quince and Co’s great yarn: www.quinceandco.com !
I may go back and get more to make Rebekah rainboot liners (see my Little Bean Rainboot Liner Pattern on ravelry if you’re curious). The prize is your choice: If you’re a knitter, you might want me to mail you this yummy skein as IS, so you can knit with it. If you’re not (orjustdon’thavetime) you can request that I knit this up into a pair of cute little orange fingerless mittens for fall.
Why fingerless mittens? Well, the yardage matches the project size. They’re great for fall, for walking your dog, taking a jog with your stroller (and child!) and those chilly days when real mittens or gloves just aren’t necessary yet.
Won’t you feel great walking around with a nice soft piece of American economy on your hands, literally? Keep searching all the posts for more giveaway info!
🙂
I would like to buy American-made for my quilt making supplies. I am going to try Threads Galore Quilt Shop in Rangeley, Maine as their website now identifies “Made in America” products.
I would love to be more conciseness to buy American for my kids clothes. I am a sucker for Target clearance. I am going to be checking out Etsy! Hope I win:)
linked ya on fb:)
does this yarn shop have a website? 🙂
Oh, gosh! How did I not link it? I thought I did that…can I blame it on the teething baby? Here’s the link, I’ll edit the post 🙂

I’d like to buy more local/american produce and groceries. I’ll hit the farmers market and fruit stands instead of the grocery store.
I shop at Hannaford’s and buy the local produce. I’d also like to go to more farmer’s markets! Great blog Alicia!
I am totally one of those moms that makes sure the family has everything before even thinking about getting something for myself, I honestly don’t think I even have any mittens or gloves!! lol. I love your blogs Alicia, they are so well written and informative, thank you for all the info you give us!
Clothing would be the best area for us to improve. I try to buy local produce, or at least US grown (I live in AZ for goodness sake). I am very conscientious about toys (except for my kiddos spending money, which drives me batty but I digress). Clothing is hard as I try to stretch our money as far as possible. I have started to really focus on this area trying to determine what we REALLY need. I am finding it a rather small amount despite the full dresser drawers. For Fall I am focusing on American made.
I’d love to find a farmer’s market close to me. I also need to go by the local place here that raises sheep and spins their own yarn.
When I have to buy a pair of shoes, it makes me crazy that, no matter the price, every pair seems to be marked “Made in China” or occasionally, some other country-never here. I have discovered Aurora Shoe Company’s website, and their shoes are made in American with American materials. I’m going to buy my next pair of shoes from them. Thanks for your blog and contest. I think promoting Made In America is terrific!
I would like to be more careful in the grocery store… I know that a lot of what I buy is from USA, but those things that are not I want to try to find a way to find American made instead. So, I will check first to see if they have them @ the grocery store. If not than I will look at farmers markets or farm stands. 🙂
Linked you on facebook 🙂
Linked to you on facebook.
I LINKED YOU AND SO DID KASEY ON F B>> sucka!
APlum! i love reading your blog It’s very good info. Thanks lady!!
I linked you on FB!! 🙂
I just found the giveaway info. YAY! 😉 hahaahah! I think I can def try to be more US minded when it comes to our hygiene items. I’d like to spend the little bit extra by buying shampoo bars, naturally made deodorant and toothpaste, and body lotions. I know Tom’s Maine does quite a bit, but I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for other companies. 🙂
I already entered but when I saw your comment, I was totally appalled that I didn’t list your category-hygiene products etc-right off. Just fyi, I have an old friend who makes wonderful, mild, all natural soap, in Wisconsin. It’s called Blackberry Creek Soaps. She has related products as well. Not only are they great, and made in the US, but they are really reasonable. Just search that name on the internet; she has someone do her website, rather than her own blog. Enjoy!
I would love to purchase clothing/toys for my son that are made here in the U.S. A great website I found tonight is http://www.zulily.com.
Nice job Alicia 🙂 Sharing your link now!! 🙂
I would like to buy more food from sources inside the USA. Also It would be great if there was a way to buy USA gasoline.
I will be working on buying more food from the US, starting with my usual grocery sources (Jewel, TJ’s, farmer’s market, Costco) and looking for alternatives elsewhere if I can’t find them.
I noticed recently that most of the grocery store tomatoes were from Canada!
id love to buy more american made gifts..i really love the idea of supporting american artists and craftsmen…and alot of the stuff on etsy for example are really cheap like under $20 for prints and things..and most of them are shipped with usps which you are also supporting (they are thinking about closing one of my post offices in my area because people no longer snail mail things which is a bigger shame because the building is at least 100 yrs old) i will def be shopping on etsy this year for christmas!
